Pain Management
Pain symptoms are extensive and complicated, and as a result, everyone feels pain differently. Back pain or arthritis, headaches, migraines, musculoskeletal pain, or pain associated with allergies, pregnancy, or injury such as a sprained ankle are all examples of acute or chronic (persistent) pain. Recurrent or intermittent pain is a kind of pain that comes and goes such as tummy ache and tooth pain.

Whilst most pain doesn’t land you in hospital, certain types of pain can make everyday life a struggle. Whereas others are inhibiting and disabling. Sometimes pain can linger subtly until it becomes a bigger problem, and in other cases it can suddenly have a large impact. Pain often leads to other pains and sometimes injuries can cause pain elsewhere in the body. Pain can also often be symptoms of other underlying conditions.

There are times when the source of pain is unseen, for example a slipped disc. Occasionally it is very difficult to find the exact cause of a person’s pain. Most minor ones are easier to treat; others may be a sign of more serious conditions. Because pain conditions and symptoms differ so widely, I advise that any diagnosis or treatment involves consulting your doctor. Along with advice from your GP, you’re welcome to bring any scans or test results to your session with me.
Pain Management Session
In a Pain management session, depending on how symptoms present, I particularly like to combine Acupuncture with Electro Acupuncture or any of the adjunct treatments, such as Moxibustion, Cupping or Guasha. This greatly improves the effectiveness of acupuncture. I also apply analgesic and anti-spasmodic Essential Oils to certain acupressure points to relax the muscles and provide immediate relief to the entire body and mind.

Your treatment plan will be unique, addressing both the origin and the location of the pain. This might entail gathering a lot of information about your current life and well-being, as well as determining when your ailment began and connecting the links.

Cupping Therapy
Benefits of Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy can be particularly effective at easing muscle aches and pains. Researchers have found that it may help with the following conditions, amongst others: shingles, facial paralysis, cough and dyspnea, acne, lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis.
What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping therapy is often used to help encourage Qi and blood flow through the body. During cupping therapy, sanitised, rounded glass cups are warmed by fire and placed on the patient. As the air inside the glass cools, a light suction is created and pulls on the tissue. It is this action that promotes the therapeutic effect, which warms particular areas of the body, relieves muscle pain and tension, and benefits the nervous system. It may also help form new connective tissue and create new blood vessels in the tissue.
Electro Acupuncture
Benefits of Electro Acupuncture
Research indicates that Electro Acupuncture can help relax the body, and relieve such pain as headache, neck and shoulder pain, lower back pain, sciatica and nerve pain. It can also improve circulation, reduce inflammation and help reduce the severity of arthritis.
What is Electro Acupuncture?
In an Electro Acupuncture treatment, the acupuncture points are stimulated with an electric current from an Electro-Stimulator device. Generally, two needles are selected to connect to the stimulator. A few pairs of points can be stimulated at the same time. When you can feel the needles, the acupuncturist will turn on the Electro-Stimulator. You may feel the electric pulse. Based on the condition being treated, the frequency and intensity of the Electro-Stimulator can be adjusted.

Electro Acupuncture is usually used to stimulate muscles and nerves, aiming to promote circulation and reduce inflammation. It has been used to accelerate the recovery of injured muscles, or damaged nerves such as in Bell's Palsy.
Moxibustion Therapy
Benefits of Moxibustion Therapy
Specific health benefits of Moxibustion can include improved blood flow, a boosted immune system, and chronic pain relief. It can relieve back pain and pain from arthritis and menstrual cramping, menstrual irregularity, infertility, and breech pregnancy. Moxibustion can help reduce the risk of developing blood clots and relieve constipation and chronic diarrhoea.
What is Moxibustion Therapy?
Moxibustion, also known as Moxa Therapy, involves burning mugwort leaves. The heat created stimulates the acu-points which improves the flow of qi (energy) in the body. The increased qi circulation promotes the circulation of blood to the acupuncture points, which helps with a range of health issues, from chronic pain to digestive troubles, as well as muscle tension and nerve zones. The mugwort leaves can be compressed into a cone shape and placed on acupuncture points, or into sticks and used near the body’s meridians. Sometimes a tiny ball can be placed on top of a needle.
Guasha Therapy
Benefits of Guasha Therapy
Gua Sha is good for musculoskeletal problems, especially tightness in the shoulders, legs and back. It can also help alleviate tension headaches, migraines, neck pain and swelling in the body. When applied in addition to acupuncture, other benefits include reduced anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, and perimenopause symptoms.
